When: August 24–25, 2023

Location: DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, 121-123 Esplanade, Cairns City QLD

We are living in a world where we are faced with many complex sustainability challenges. GIS is pivotal to finding solutions to meet these challenges. With the power of data, maps and technological advancements, we can find clarity in complexity and shine a light on the way to a more sustainable future. Hear from a variety of interesting, creative, forward spatial thinkers at FunGIS’s 32nd annual conference!

Our theme: Mapping for a sustainable future!

The United Nations report states that the global population is expected reach 9.7 billion people by 2050.  Add to the mix, the climate crisis, a global pandemic and social inequity.

How will we sustain this population expansion and meet the demands for food, shelter, water security, medicines and all other essentials? How will we prepare for more extreme weather events?

GIS and spatial sciences are central to the efforts being undertaken to address the most pressing problems our world is facing. Maps of all varieties are a visual language that reveal spatial and temporal patterns in the world around us, at both local and global scales.  They illustrate change, gaps, disparities, progress and success.

This year, we want to know how your data, maps, tech, spatial discoveries and curiosities are lighting the way to a more sustainable future!

Topics to be covered

  • Crop forecasting
  • Agro-ecosystems
  • Critical minerals
  • Biosecurity and pest management
  • Power, privilege and poverty
  • Mobile data collection
  • Water security
  • Biodiversity and threatened species
  • Renewable energies
  • Tech advancements!
    • LiDAR
    • Drones
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Remote sensing

Visit Cairns during the best time of year! The venue, Double Tree by Hilton Hotel, is right on the glorious Esplanade. Why not stay and make the most of it?

Our conferences feature speakers from across the spatial spectrum including government, academic, private industry and not-for-profit organisations. Network and meet other people in the local far north GIS community, we're a good bunch!

Events like this simply aren't possible without the support of wonderful people and organisations.

Gold Sponsor: AUSTRALIAN SPATIAL ANALYTICS

Australian Spatial Analytics (ASA) is one of Australia’s largest and fastest growing Work Integrated Social Enterprises. Since 2020, ASA have provided career pathways in the Geospatial and Engineering industries to young neurodiverse adults. ASA harnesses the talents of neurodiverse people to make a difference to their lives.
